I was curious after seeing the Broadway hit Legally Blonde about this book. It moves fast but doesn’t inspire as solidly as the play. I would like Elle to discover herself more. Also there was no romantic connection in the ending. I was disappointed about that. But the book moves along nicely and Elle’s nonchalance about law school is entertaining. I would recommend the book for a side read.Tags : Legally Blonde [Amanda Brown] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Legally Blonde Amanda Brown 9780452283732 Books Reviews
I do not want to compare it to a movie, so I am not. This book does nothing to recommend itself.
It does however fail in the following ways.
1. Elle is lazy and obnoxious. Our hero regularly ditches class and on the rare occasions she does go, she reads magazines during class and expects her "secret angel" who finds her attractive to provide all the outlines she needs. Who wants to follow a character who is truly entitled, gets most things handed to her on a platter, doesn't really work for her success, and at the end has not really changed?
2. There is no depth and the supporting characters lack interest or humor.
3. The writing is stilted and uninteresting.
There is nothing to recommend this book, and I would not encourage anyone to read it.
A bit different from the movie but a fun read. Would be great as a beach or vacation book. Loved it.
I couldn't believe this was made into a movie...until I realized that the IDEA was bought and put in the capable hands of good writers who created the screenplay, and that this book didn't come out until AFTER the film did, no doubts in hopes of cashing in on the film's success.
The writing and editing are laughable, the story and characters flat, the plot dragging along without any real resolution, character development, or point. It's obvious that the Elle in the book is nothing like the Elle in the film, and she really has no actual arch or redeeming qualities.
This "book," if you can even call it that, is better utilized as a coaster than reading material. Don't bother reading it.
If you know the film, you know the major plot beats and the characters (even of names have changed). There's added drama in the film, though. This is closer to pure, heartwarming fluff. Enjpyable and worth the read.
If you are hoping for a book form of the movie, you will be disappointed. The only characters that are unchanged from the film are Elle and Warner.
That being said, it still very much has the heart and themes of the movie, and I really enjoyed this version of Elle as she deals with being bullied and looked down on.
Book was quite a short read but certainly worth checking out of you are a fan.
I purchased this book. In almost all instances, the book is generally better than the movie, but not in this case! The book didn't really develop any characters; all felt like cardboard cut outs just passing though Elle's orbit. Disappointed.
A fun, light read. My niece got it for Christmas and when I saw it I was so excited ) I love the movie and didn't realize it was based on a book! I read it over the course of 2 days and absolutely loved it. There are details that are different from the movie (just so people expecting it to be exactly the same are aware) but it doesn't detract from the enjoyment of Elle Woods at all. Just so, so good...
