The financial world of 2031 collapses. Jobs are so scarce, work is made available only to those between 45 and 67. Jack, a former colonel, is lucky enough to find work in a furniture factory but soon discovers that his boss is a maniacal masochist. With no rights, Jack and his coworkers must decide between complacency and action against tyranny.

To answer my own question, I would put forward the case that the author is most likely the sole audience for this book. For everyone else, I would recommend a pass....maybe.

There is hope for this novel, in that it is so like an 'Ed Wood' movie: so crudely done at points, that it actually 180s into something entertaining, precisely because it really isn't very good at all. Yet the author saw it through until the end! That takes a lot of courage in my book, and I salute Mr Jacobs for the effort.

So if you do decide to read this, I recommend doing so with a kind heart and a smile.

After a while, I actually found it quite charming how, for instance, technology is portrayed from such a totally AOL-how-your-grandmother-thinks-the-internet-works perspective. I mean the characters actually print out their emails!!! Lol.

And that unsophisticated view of reality is not only limited to technology. Pretty much everything from politics, to economics, to how human relationships work is written with the same out-of-touch perspective. But really that is part fo the fun of this book. You will _always_ be four steps ahead of the author, so it gives one more freedom to have some fun with it.

In short, this isn't the sort of book one reads because of what it _is_, but rather, what sort of book it _isn't_, yet aspires to be.

The Factory Kerry E Jacobs 9781453760734 Books Reviews

I am a freelance screenwriter as well as a television writer. The beauty of writing a book or script is that there are no restrictions. In this book, Jacobs exposed his creative ability and imagination. If you write a book that is written in a "traditional" style and is confined to the realism and expectations of today, it will remain in the physical form of a book. If you can use your imagination and write a book like Jacobs did here, you can reach a whole different audience. This book was well thought out and developed and I think it could be written to be produced as a feature. I don't think the goal of writing should be used to get people to read your book. I think the goal is to get your ideas out to the world. I read countless amounts of scripts as well as books and it is rare that I read one that I think could be easily turned into a feature. I WOULD recommend this book if you have an imagination and are not grading this book based off YOUR real life experiences and how you think things should be done (referring to the other review laughing about the printed out emails; some of the top business owners I personally know STILL do this). I am about to read Mr. Jacobs' Honorable Intentions. Review to come soon.
