I dove into this book having been pulled in by such a great beginning. However, I was amazed how much I disliked the hero and kept on disliking him throughout the book. For a hero who was supposed to 'champion' and 'protect' women I felt he was always angry and used (and nearly abused) all the women nearly the entire book. 'Unfaithful' may have been a better title. Also, I didn't feel the chemistry of love between the hero/heroine. They didn't have much interaction to produce what I felt was a love above all the other women relationships the hero had. When I finished, I had so many questions that were left unanswered---like there should have a been a book before it that told of the prior relationship between the two. Though the writing style was good, the whole book had a 'sad, lonely' feel and I was a bit disappointed with it all. I have enjoyed Marcia McClure's books better.

Betrayal Jaimey Grant 9781440414688 Books Reviews

The book was written like a sequel. I picked it up and felt like I was starting in the middle and not at the beginning of a story. Was this a sequel? I hate when it is not made clear at the beginning. If not this was a major flaw. The writing was a little off too. The characters were irritating to me too. The story was interesting enough that I didn't put it down, but I won't be reading anymore by this author. This is an adult book that is not clean to me. There were no detailed love scenes and that kept this from being a bodice ripper but there was sex and there was a rape scene.
The hero does something early in the story that makes him completely unsympathetic. Don't bother.
I wanted to read a nice "clean" historical fiction. Though not described in full detail, a sex and rape scene were both present in the story. But that is not what gave this book a one star rating. The characters were not consistent with their portrayal. By the end of the book, one almost feels like the author is writing about different characters. Just not believable at all. The reader never gets why the two main characters are even in love in the first place as the author didn't develop any pleasant interaction between the two. It's like a huge chunk of the story is missing. I won't be reading from this author again.
What a story. Very riveting. I enjoyed following Bri's story from her flight from Honor as well as Adam's pursuit of her. Very dark and straightforward in the telling not to mention compelling. What her family put her through. Adam and Bri do make an excellent and entertaining couple.
I went to jaimeys blog and was drawn into her book, Betrayal by the descriptions she had there of her main characters.
I wanted to know more (exactly what is suppose to happen). I had just downloaded kindle to my iPhone, so how wonderful for me that with a click of a few buttons I had her book in hand.
I only put the iPhone down a few times, but once the kids were gone and I had all Sunday to myself, I stayed in my chair till I had found out all the wonderful details of The handsome Adam and his quick to sarcasm but slightly needy nemesis, Bri.
It was a wonderful story. I wanted to punch the bad guy, slap Adam silly a few times and I believe I yelled out "just tell him already" a few times.

Good characters, good story, and now I must get the books jaimey wrote prior to Betrayal, to answer a few questions that were not made ready about the characters within the pages of Betrayal. Great job with keeping me in suspense and making me return for more.

I do recommend the book Betrayal!
I first read this wonderfull story on my daughter auther Lori Boggs's and knew I had to have a copy for myself. I am facinated by Jaimey's writing style. She puts me right there and I feel with each of her characters. Life was so different in this time frame and Jaimey brings it to us in full color. Bri has had so much hardship yet her spirit comes through even when she is at her lowest. Adam fights his own better self as he tries to save Bri. I couldn't put this down as a read and the same was true when I finally got the book, Thank you Jaimey for a wonderfull story.
I've said before that I'm a walk-away from the romance genre. I had begun to feel like I was reading the same book over and over again.

Then I had the good fortune to meet author Jaimey Grant when we both entered a writing contest. She asked me if I would review one of her books, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It says a lot that I would not only read one of her books but have just finished a third one; Jaimey's characters are well-developed and her plots are entertaining. Minor characters from some of her titles have major roles in others.

I think "Betrayal" is the best of Jaimey Grant's books that I have read so far. Her heroine, Brianna, is not the typical Regency novel bluestocking; she has spent time in a madhouse and in prison. The hero, Adam Prestwick, is hired by her family to return her to them because she has the fortune that they want to spend. Naturally, Adam and Brianna fall in love (this is a romance novel), but there are many obstacles to be overcome during the course of the story.

Jaimey doesn't pull punches about hard situations, even while she writes a "clean" romance. I cannot recommend her books highly enough to fans of the genre ... including my fellow walkaways.
