A lone sculptor living in an abandoned factory, an art student who doesn't speak, shots ringing out late at night...

When Andre moves to the city with his mom, he meets a mysterious cast of characters, all with something in common. But what? And what do they have to do with Andre, his mom, or his brother James, whose death is still a mystery?

Wireman (Vol. 1-2) cultivates a love of reading in older at-risk readers, ages 10-17, by providing them with culturally relevant and engaging literature in the form of an appealing comic book appropriate for all reading levels. Wireman succeeds where most books fail because it was written by a skilled, published author with in-depth input from the readers she most wanted to reach.

Wireman Comics eBook Sue Stauffacher

My class of high school juniors loved Wireman for its active real-life plot lines and the authenticity of the characters. After reading the entire series, here's a selection of their reviews:

If you’re a parent, teacher, sibling, or even a friend of a struggling reader, Wireman is a great alternative to those challenging novels. I personally have a family friend that’s a struggling reader. He constantly stutters while reading and feels embarrassed because of his illiteracy compared to others. This source of writing will make him feel like there’s hope for him and his lack of reading skills. The graphics are intriguing, understandable, and will have you flipping the pages for more. You don’t even have to read the words and the images will tell you the whole story. The storylines are very suspenseful and relate to many real-life experiences. The cool story-line of “getting away from the bullies” is very humorous and has the children referring to the character as some type of hero. It’s basically like watching a TV show or a Netflix series because of the numerous volumes, issues, and action. Incorporating graphic novels into students’ lives will take away their fear of humiliation, give them an urge to read, and make them even more intrigued into graphic novels. Wireman is a great series to help these readers, so grab an issue today and you won’t be disappointed. –Hymanie Attobra

Wireman is a graphic novel aimed to help struggling youth literacy rates in a fun and interesting way. The book is very inciting to young readers by way of dynamic pictures, interesting plots and narratives, with easy to read words for unexperienced readers. The graphic novels make sure that the readers are challenged to understand certain words or phrases to follow the plot and not get confused. As a person who deals with youth on a daily basis I can confidentially say that this series of graphic novels can be used as a great asset to many struggling readers that are in grade school. I would heavily recommend this series to parents that want to make their kid is on the proper reading level for their grade or just a quick pick up for casual readers. –Ryan Gallagher

Wireman is a story that can be enjoyable to all ages. It is easy to read, and has pictures to keep you on track with the story. Wireman keeps you on the edge of your seat. From it's stunning graphics and art, to it's enticing storyline, you will never get bored. Out of 10, I give this a 10. This book needs to be publicized. It is the best book nobody knows about. If you put this in the hands of a child, they will fall in love with it and want to read more and more of it. I'm pumped for the 3rd edition, and the 4th edition, and the 5th edition! -- Zach Ivey

As a visual learner and a student who does not find reading enjoyable, I was surprised to find a book that I enjoy reading and actually had a hard time putting it down. While reading Wireman I was engaged and able to easily understand the plot and message of the story. Wireman tells the story of an artistic and often misunderstood boy. This connects to many students because everybody feels misunderstood at least once in their lives. While reading Wireman I was exposed to the wonders of graphic novels, which could be an excellent tool for people who best learn with visual items. Books like Wireman should receive the funding and recognition they deserve so they can continue making more spectacular stories. These graphic novels should be available to help all students be able to learn efficiently.

Wireman Comics eBook Sue Stauffacher Reviews

I feel like WIREMAN was made for my students! It is such an amazing way to engage students of all levels and abilities. I teach in the south side of Chicago and it doesn't seem like a lot of books are geared towards my students, especially those who may struggle with reading. The cover and artwork immediately draw the students in as they can relate to those images. I teach 4th graders, but have passed copies on to almost every class in my k-8 school. I love that I can use this series with my struggling readers as well as those at grade level and above.

As a new student was looking over my classroom library, he asked me what WIREMAN was...a huge smile spread on my face as I heard multiple students in the class yell out, "it's awesome!". It truly is, and I am so glad Sue Stauffacher has brought WIREMAN into our lives!
Amazing comics! I got so caught up in them, I couldn't wait to share with my students, and my teacher friends!
Excellent
The story line is awesome and very easy to follow. The pictures accurately portray the words on the pages.
As facilitator of a middle school book club, I am constantly on the lookout for books that appeal to a wide variety of reading levels. Wireman, a 2 volume comic book, was a perfect choice for last month's book club. With an accessible vocabulary for less proficient readers and content and graphic novel format that appealed to all, we had our best book club experience yet. Club members extended their experience with the material by creating their own story lines and drawing their own characters.
Totally relatable circumstances and reactions by the lead character. I am an animator and wish it was in animation. Wireman is beyond what is expected making it a modern classic. Bravo! I will be buying and sharing each new edition when they become available in kindle. Meanwhile continued blessings upon you guys! You are a treasure.
Wireman's characters have dreads, they wear jeans and hoodies. Kids from high school down to upper elementary can relate to them. The illustrations are wonderful and the story line is captivating. This is a series of graphic novels, all bound in one high-quality 7 x 10" paperback, that's cool to share with friends. No more worries about being caught with a little kids' book just because its at your reading level! "By the time readers have completed the book, they'll also know the top 300 high frequency words, making up 65% of all written English." Every struggling reader deserves this book.
